Evaluation Questions
Here is our questions that we need to start considering when I start on my digipak and coming towards the end of our music video ideas etc.
Digipak: Examples
Here i've found some indie artists albums in their digipak to help me start on what I hope to achieve in my own.
Here's is Lana Del Rey's. I like the simplicity of this album and the font itself is really basic. My favourite is the CD with the roses. All of this is simple and if I was to use a protagonist on my album cover, I have this idea of the band name being behind them with the album name going elsewhere.
the XX. The most simple out of everything. Yet their holographic X reflects their music and it gives me a good start into branching further and possibly not using a protagonist / group of artists.
AM. One of their first albums and even though this may be a bit too explicit for an educational project, I like how it's black and white and that the song titles at the back are in one confined area at the top, a common theme in most albums.
Of course, Bon Iver. Of which our song we're using "Wash" is from. The font is really different than any other, more looking like handwriting, creating a more real effect. However, the pictures of such are a bit too hard to illustrate as I am no artist (storyboard speaks for itself). Again, i like how it doesn't have a protagonist nor does it have the band.
Finally, F+TM. Her debut album is one of my favourites on this post. Using the title name over the special effect on the front cover, really focusing on that. furthermore, the back of the album is more interesting than anything else. using an illustrated lung, labelling all the different parts to the song titles. also, splitting the titles into how the mechanics of lungs work (In and Out). With this album, I like how the name of the band is on the top, like Lana's and Arctic Monkeys.

Character Profile: Ruby (Urban)
The other story: Ruby's. Here she went for a more classy look as she is the Urban side to the narrative music video and doesn't have running shoes or anything comfortable, she just has her casual clothing to make her story more of spare of the moment running away.
Sick of Losing Soulmates by Dodie
We watched this together and highlighted something that could inspire us for Ruby's Story. This video has inspired us to slightly change the narrative for ours and instead of having Ruby watching something liberal on TV, we decided to have her "parents" see her out with her girlfriend. Further considerations and planning will go into this over the next few weeks and how we can portray this.
Act of the Apostle - God Help the Girl
This will help Ruby's Story
For example, we wanted to use the shadow of Ruby's parents in the video instead of showing their faces, this creates an illusive feel to the piece whilst also allowing it to relate to audiences also in that situation. The video also includes a bit on the train, and whilst we did not intend to have as many shots on the train as this video has, as a group we can take ideas from this video and try several different shot types and see which one works the best in the final piece.

Audience Feedback
Showing the 30 second clip, we asked our class what they thought and what we should do to improve upon it. Taking their ideas, we have now decided to use more of an older character to portray my parents. Which means a lot of persuasion to my actual parents to actually argue with a camera in front of them instead of nothing at all.
30 Second Snippet
Before the holidays we showed the class some of our footage that we have iced together in time to the music. Here is the clip put together.
Research: Characters Emotion
Whilst filming today, one of the scenes I improvised with is my character being out of place and sort of having panic attacks. Scratching my neck and legs, looking around dazed and confused was some of the things I came up with. After the shooting I wanted to research more into side effects of such things like panic attacks so if re-shoots were too happen or new shots when we're at Ally Pally I would be able to portray the character as best as I can.
Character Profile: Megan (Rural)
For my character we wanted to have the Levi Strausse theory of binary oppositions. With my character being RURAL (Ruby's URBAN). With that, I tried to find clothes in my wardrobe that would slightly show off basic necessary items: a basic navy jumper and leggings.
With that, my character also has mental health "problem". Anxiety, Panic Attacks is what could stem from family breakdown that is somewhat "easy" to show in a music video. Nevertheless, my character should look more scruffy than Ruby's so I did something scruffy to my hair and got my favourite bag from a Costa Rican market and ran on queue.
